What are your rates?
Our prices are listed here. However some better and more measurable questions are “what is your hourly rate?” (since many schools run short lessons), also “do your Instructors possess WA Dept of Transport Instructors Licenses, or did they simply purchase their Instructors License like so many?” Believe it or not, it is possible to purchase an Instructors License and be subjected to minimal or no assessment of the Instructor’s capability.
How many lessons will it take until I can go for my test?
There are many variables which makes this difficult to say straight off. After a lesson or 2 we will be able to make a more accurate assessment. “Generally”, if you would have 1 lesson per week, along with 3 or 4 drives a week outside of lessons and have no prior experience,15 lessons would be around the average. So, to “lessen the lessons” you need plenty of practice between lessons to consolidate what you have learned. We have a structured process which will take you through the steps of becoming an excellent driver! Driving is a skill you will have for life, so taking the time to learn it properly now is an investment into your driving future. If you would like to get to test level in the quickest possible time we offer an Intensive Course. (see Pricing)
What is the best duration of a driving lesson?
We offer 1 hour lessons, which pack more punch than the 45 minutes offered by many schools. We even recommend taking 1.5 hour lessons! The longer the lesson, the more comprehensive it is, and the quicker things will sink in. We have a current special on our 1.5 hour lessons at the moment too!
What type of cars do you have?
We offer a Manual Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport, a Manual Mazda 2, an Automatic Suzuki Swift, and an Automatic Toyota Corolla Hybrid. Great cars for learning to drive in, with easy to learn pedals and controls.
Which Licensing centres do you go to for Driving Tests?
We go to West Perth, Mirrabooka, Joondalup and Butler Licensing centres. And, we know them extremely well.
Are you the manual driving lesson experts?
Well yes we have had a very successful history with manual instruction, but we also have Automatic specialists in our team. So, either way we have you covered.
Do you offer Gift Vouchers?
Yes, most definitely! And, they can be purchased for any amount of lessons and can be used at any stage of your process.(from beginner to final test prep). Click here to check them out!
Why do some schools only do 45 or 50 minute lessons, and why do you do a full hour as standard?
We feel that 45 minutes is cutting it short, and some schools do this so they can pack more lessons into a day. It is frustrating to be on the edge of making a breakthrough but then have to end the lesson. From our experience, 1 hour is a more productive lesson time than 45 minutes. Also, 1 hour lessons work out significantly cheaper for you.
Does my lesson fee cover insurance?
Absolutely! You can drive easy and be covered by our fully comprehensive (including public liability) insurance policy.
I have heard that there is a long wait to book a Driving Assessment, is this true? In which case should I book one now?
At times there can be a small delay, but this is usually cleared up in just a day or 2 so a wait of more than a few weeks is very rare. We are very happy to assist you in making a test booking.
I am a Boarder, can you start and finish the lesson at the Boarding House?
Absolutely. A major component of our school clientele is boarding students. We understand the challenges of learning to drive without parents close-by, so will help and support you every step of the way.
Can my friend/brother/sister/parent ride in the back during a lesson?
Yes! In fact to have a lesson with a sibling or friend and swapping over half way through is a great way to observe driving from a different perspective, so is something we encourage.
Will you book my test for me, or do I have to do it?
Yes we are more than happy to help make your test booking. We are in very close communication with Driver Services so are usually on the scene when a new batch of tests is released.
Can you pick me up from school/Uni/work for my lesson?
Of course! We are happy to have before and after school lessons, finishing/beginning at school. Driving to and from locations other than home is what you will be doing when you are a P plater, so this is a great way to improve your skills and confidence!
I have never driven before and am worried that you will take me on busy roads. You wouldn’t do this to me, would you?
No of course not! For the first few drives we will stay within your comfort zone. Familiar streets and surroundings will help to ease you in to the feeling of being behind the wheel. Remember, we have dual controls to help prevent any potentially hazardous situations. Almost all students manage unassisted takeoffs and gearing in the first lesson, really! With Drivers Edge there is no such thing as a mistake. We call them Learning Opportunities!
What should I consider when choosing a Driving Instructor?
It should be someone who you can openly communicate with, someone who knows the road rules and how to communicate this to you. They should be friendly and easy going and be understanding of a person in your position, which means having a positive and constructive response to your questions and ‘learning opportunities’ not a negative one. Ask a prospective instructor what their lesson plan would entail for the first lesson! If the answer begins with eeehhmm, hang up! Ask them if they achieved a clean sheet on their Instructors test! Legally, an Instructor must possess a valid Driving Instructors License. (careful, many do not).
There are plenty of Driving Schools out there, why should I choose you? What can you bring that others don’t?
Drivers Edge represents the perfect balance of youth and experience. We have fun, and achieve great results while doing it! We have above the required qualifications with BOTH Government Accreditation AND Certificate 3 in Motor Vehicle Driver Training. We have driving experience in more than 20 countries worldwide. Our instructors have an open Motorbike License and Limousine license, representing a very broad experience base. We are always on time for your lessons. We have helped hundreds of previous students in your position pass their driving test and get their license. We constantly update our knowledge base and stay up to date with all driving test requirements and road rules. Our priority is improving your driving skills, not dragging out the process. (which is why we provide 1 hour lessons and not 45 minutes). Naturally we have a National Police Clearance and a current Working With Children card. You are fully covered by our insurance policy. (no disclaimers for you to sign).
Do you offer automatic driving lessons?
We sure do! We offer both manual driving lessons AND automatic driving lessons.
I have an Automatic (C-A) class license and wish to upgrade to a Manual (C) class license. What is the process?
Congratulations, come join the club! Grab yourself a Yellow Learners Permit card at any Licensing Centre and you’re ready to go. This permit will entitle you to book a driving assessment. Then once you would pass the test you immediately acquire your unrestricted C class (manual) license.
Can we do driving lessons in my own car?
Yes. Provided you are at a level where you are comfortable to drive without the dual controls. And, as long as your vehicle is road worthy (tyres, lights, cleanliness) and it has the appropriate insurance.
